Squad & Elite
The Edinburgh Judo Club has a squad structure in place to help nurture and develop competitive skills. We are very proud of our clubs competition history, in our junior, senior and veteran section. Many of Scotland’s top youngsters are members of the judo club and compete in regional, national and international events representing both Scotland and Great Britain. Lee Calder is the Head Junior Squad Coach. As well as being the Head Coach, Lee also manages the squad and travels with them to competitions and training camps the length and breadth of Britain and Europe. Currently training Full-Time as members of The Edinburgh Judo Club are several of the top players in Great Britain who were selected for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, with many aiming to compete in London 2012 and Glasgow 2014. Head Coach of the full-time training group is Billy Cusack, who himself is an Olympian and competed at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Billy has coached at four Olympic Games. All members of the club will get an opportunity to meet these International Judo Stars at guest coaching sessions throughout the year and have the chance to see their favourite judo techniques – and possibly even practice with them!
