I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year. My Christmas was brief as we have been training right the way through the festive period for the British Trials next weekend. Had 3 days up north with my family for Christmas, loved it! Nothing like mums roast turkey…..and pigs in a blanket YUM!!!

So we had from the 23rd til the 27th off then it was back to training. We didn’t even miss too much training this year as both Christmas and New Year fell on a weekend. Training has been pretty tough. As soon we came back from up north we drove down to Kendal for a day and joined in a training camp there. Two randori sessions and then back up the road in one day. It was a good laugh with everyone on the bus.

New year was crazy as we ended up going round to some of the girls’ (Sarah Adlington and Sally Conway’s) flat for a small party, and KOSEI INOUE turned up. We all  just had a few drinks and a laugh and rang in the bells.

Next…………………….the trials.  Wish me luck.Kind Regards, David Millar

So…………..our trip to France was quite long but thanks to our coach David Somerville we made it there in brilliant time. We left after training on Thursday night, straight in the bus and off we went and we arrived around lunch time the next day. It was amazing when we found out that we had a kilo allowance at our weigh-in which took some pressure off for weight loss. We also managed to weigh-in the night before which was even better, job done!!!! On to the fights. I had 6 fights. I won my first against a short stocky French guy who was the strongest little guy in the world. I managed to throw him for waza-ari and took it to the end. My next fight I lost by ippon. It was unfortunate as I was in for a throw (Sode-Tsuri Komi Goshi) and almost had him, but I’ve been turned over for the score, perhaps a little too much commitment to the throw from me!!! Then every fight after that I won by ippon to finally get the bronze. I am pleased with my performance as it reflected what I’ve been working on in training. After all this, it was then……..medal, change, on the bus….no shower! Then another 12 hours home. It was worth it though!!!

31st October 2010

This week’s been pretty tough. Having fought 73′s last weekend (my first tournament back after my operation – The Scottish Open in Paisley) I was already a wee bit tired, then we had a three day training camp at The National Training Centre at Ratho which was mostly randori. Monday morning randori then technique in the afternoon (which is why Nicky covered my classes that day) then 2 randori sessions on Tuesday then a technique session Wednesday morning and back to coaching my classes at The Edinburgh Judo Club. Then my week continued as normal.

Classes went really well on Wednesday, and we saw the return of an old face Blazej . It was good to see him come back to the club, as we haven’t seen him since the move. Saturday morning as always was brilliant with myself, Nicky and Euan on the mat. All our kids put in a great effort (both at training and those competing at the Hibari Kan Open in Larkhall). Well done to all those who fought at the weekend.

To top everything off we had an amazing Judo birthday party for Tristan Clark who turned 6, and we had a bunch of his friends and parents in the club. The kids had loads of fun playing games and eating an amazingly crafted cake (subtle compliment to the parents). All in all a great week, which made the yoga session that me Jig and Al did on Sunday morning much more relaxing. NOT!!!

Regards, David.
