This month in Edinburgh, the action wasn’t limited to the Fringe Festival taking place across the city - as the club has been buzzing with lots of activity and excitement too!
Firstly, thank you to Krzysztof for taking the time to visit us for some training whilst on holiday in Edinburgh!
It was great to have you join us on the mat for some newaza in between all the sightseeing, and we were cheering on your fellow club member Piotr Kuczera who fought at the Paris Olympics in the -100KG category.
Thanks again for visiting, and we hope to welcome you and your clubmates from Kejza Team Rybnik in the future!
Big Sarah took a trip over to Glasgow to be a guest on CBBC's Saturday Mash-Up alongside double Paralympic medallist Sam Ingram!
Both Sarah and Sam were very excited to be featured in an Olympic Relay, where they displayed some of their judo skills as part of the show.
Let us know if you managed to catch them in action on your TV!
Congratulations to Liam T who achieved his black belt via lineup over the summer and passed his theory exam on the same day! Liam joins his big brother Finn as one of EdinburghJudo’s newest Dan grades and they can now both wear their black belts with pride.
Well done Liam and keep up the hard work!!
We are proud to be part of a new initiative from FabLittleBag and JudoScotland that provides free and easy-to-access period products for those in the judo community who need them.
Periods can sometimes affect someone's ability to partake in sport (especially an unexpected one!), so by having free, accessible products within the club, we hope to give our members some extra confidence to train and to help break the stigma around periods.
By taking part in initiatives like these, we're taking another step towards making EdinburghJudo more inclusive for everyone, and we look forward to continuing to work with more partners like FabLittleBag as part of this effort!
With the school term kicking off again this month, our schools and community classes have returned for another exciting term of judo. Our coaches are looking forward to welcoming back faces, old and new, to our schools and community clubs!
Above you can see the areas across Edinburgh in which we currently offer community classes, with the "schools" page on our website having details on our internal partnership schools where we offer judo for existing pupils.
For more information about our community sessions listed above or to book a class for your child, please get in touch!
In addition to our schools and community classes, PortyJudo has now launched at the Bellfield under the experienced guidance of our coach Nick Thwaits. Nick has been a key figure in our community for years, and we’re excited to have him leading this new journey.
Whether your child has taken part before, or they’re just curious about the sport, and you’re based in and around the Portobello area, this is the perfect time to get involved with the judo community.

We’re very excited to announce brand new adult classes and an updated timetable for our main dojo at St Margaret's House!
We now offer 30 classes a week suitable for all ages and abilities, including our new No-Gi Grappling class and Beginners Judo Course* for seniors. From pre-school to senior, beginners or dan grades, there’s a class for everyone!
Whether you’re a current member, new to the club or just fancy dropping by, our new No-Gi Grappling and Skills & Drills sessions are open to all and will kick off from the 2nd of September. These sessions are available to book as a free trial on our website, so if you or someone you know is not currently an EdinburghJudo member but would like to come along to one of these classes, please book in! We're always glad to welcome new faces to our classes and grow our community.
*Our 6-week Beginners Judo Course will begin in October and is perfect for those looking to start their judo journey. If you have a friend or family member interested in starting judo, please spread the word about the course as we will be releasing more details and accepting bookings very soon!
Finally, our October Camp is now available for bookings! Camp is open to all members, non-members, friends and family aged 5+ years, with single-day and full-week booking options available.
Each day of camp will be packed full of games, challenges, fun activities and judo to keep everyone active and engaged throughout the October break. You can book a place for your child by clicking the button below, or get in touch for more information/with any questions by emailing us at enquiries@edinburghjudo.com
As we roll into September, we kick off our updated timetable and look forward to growing our new senior No-Gi and Skills & Drills sessions, alongside continuing to develop and build upon the hard work shown in our junior classes.
We're excited to share some updates on our new senior sessions and all of September's action in our next round-up!
Until then,
The EdinburghJudo Team
