Dame Kelly Holmes

Double Olympic Champion, and Founder of the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, with whom EdinburghJudo works as a delivery partner.

Upon visiting EdinburghJudo to watch delivery of the pilot of the Dames Kelly Holmes Trust and EdinburghJudos’ ‘Get On Track’ program, designed to work with 16-25 year old young people currently Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET).

‘It was good for me to hear about our young people’s experience and to see what they’ve done (on our EdinburghJudo Get on Track program). We were supported here by EdinburghJudo and judoka Sarah Clark, our Athlete Team Leader in Scotland. She gave (the young people) support to get our young people in to positive outcomes.’

harukaI went to Edinburgh to change myself when I was falling into a slump. And I really got recharged! I enjoyed my life in Edinburgh very much! Beautiful nature, and the world of Harry Potter which is my favourite story, were both awesome. I really enjoyed training judo with my friends who were all very nice to me. The kids at EdinburghJudo gave me a lot of energy! Those people told me that the most important thing for Judo is to enjoy itself. I wish to do Judo with them again. Thanks to such wonderful experience and the people who I met there, I got a chance to challenge the Olympics again. Thank you my friends, my heart is always with you.

TESTIMONIAL-3My daughter, Kirsty, started judo at EdinburghJudo just over three and a half years ago. On taking her along we were immediately struck by the relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the club. Everyone was very patient with Kirsty as she was unsure about joining in. Indeed, it was a few weeks before she really got involved. No pressure was put on her, or us, to get her started or to start paying for sessions. Eventually, Kirsty got on the mat and now there is no stopping her.

Since then, the club has become a part of our extended family where Kirsty has made a number of good friends amongst her fellow judoka (both students and instructors). All of us look forward to our time at the club where my wife and I can meet up with the other parents for a tea/coffee and a chat whilst watching the kids train. We are always made to feel welcome and involved in the club.

As far as doing judo is concerned, Kirsty absolutely loves it. She enjoys the technical side of the sport, is getting tremendous coaching and now goes three times a week. The sport is superb for teaching kids discipline, taking instruction, and generally being active. It builds confidence and respect. I would recommend judo to everyone and recommend EdinburghJudo as the place to do it.

wypers‘EdinburghJudo has so many fantastic attributes that it is difficult to know where to start.  The standard of coaching is exceptional with each coach bringing something different so that the judoka are constantly learning and challenged.

The need for discipline sets the sport apart and the judo values permeate all that the club does teaching valuable life lessons as well as the sport.

As a parent it is a pleasure to spend time in such a bright, happy, place and my whole family is now involved in some way.”

With work, it is hard to find the motivation and time to exercise or go to the gym after a long day, however after my first Judo class – this mentality changed. Judo has given me the opportunity to keep fit, improve my self discipline and meet new people. EdinburghJudo caters for all levels of experience and is a club where you will be made to feel at home from day one by the highly skilled and experienced coaching staff. Come along and give it a try!
